The "Ply's" inside have come apart... it's the steel chorded belts that runs around the inner circumference of the tire... as they get old usually 60,000 miles... or hit something very hard... the belts separate inside... causing to much vibration inside your car, and usually a "bubble" in the tread.

if you have 1 separate tire replace the tire immediately a separate tire is so dangerous the tire can explode at any moment with fatal results.

Is a bubble in a tire dangerous?

Very much so if it blows out. ----------------------------------------- Yes. If there is a bubble in a tire, that means that the tire has what is called a separation. A separation happens when the tread on the tire peels away from the steel belts and fabric inside. Air then starts leaking into the space between the tread and steel, and creates a bulge in the tire, which is the bubble you can feel in the tire. A separation is extremely dangerous because a separated tire WILL blow out shortly after the bulge appears.

What would cause a sound like a flat tire while driving if the tire is not flat?

Two things could cause the tire to make a noise sounding like a flat tire even though the tire is fully inflated. First, if the tire has a big enough flat spot on the tread surface and second if the radial plies in the tire have separated letting air between the belts causing patches of the tread surface to bulge.Answeri test drove a geo that had loose lug nits on it that made a noise like that

Will auto comprehensive cover damage to car caused by tire tread separation?

i would like a little more information here....are you saying that your tire separated, then your vehicle (due to the tire separation) was involved in an accident? if that is the question, would more than likely be under the collision coverage of your policy dependant upon what you hit rather than the comp coverage....also would typcially cover the ''insueing damage'' not the tire...in other words, the tire wouldn't be covered, but rest of damage after the tire would be .....if you have a decent claims department they should investigate the tire for defects and possibly 'subrogate' the tire manufactor

Hydroplaning occurs when?

Hydroplaning occurs when vehicle tires go over more water than they can displace. In these situations the tire is separated from the road by a layer of water.

Can a steel belted radial tire break from the inside?

My Firestone 721's back in the '70s appeared to have broken from the inside and then blew out. The belts separated causing the tire to cup, separate and then blow out. I had this happen to my fronts first, but the rears showed evidence of it as well. Firestone admitted that the 7 wrapped by 2 then by 1 tire, caused friction which broke the steel belts.

Can a tire get a slipped belt from rotating the tires?

If you are meaning "Can a tire get separated belts...?" then the short answer is yes, but only in certain circumstances. When a tire is worn a certain "wear pattern" results. A "wear pattern " is the new shape of the actual cleats of the tire after being worn over time. If a significant enough wear pattern has already occurred in one direction then rotating the tires can start a whole new wear pattern. When a tire is old (@4 yrs or more), or the former wear pattern bad enough, this stress on the tire in a whole new direction can tear and separate a tire in a few miles at a high enough speed.
