Any time you keep below 50 carbs a day, and 1,200-1,300 calories you'll lose weight. If you are very active you can usually afford more calories but from my personal experience keep the carbs low. Plan on losing 2 lbs a week and you'll be able to keep it off too. When you're ready to maintain your weight just slowly add carbs and calories until you even out.
