Well, the big reason is because both of them are too young to marry. Back in the Classic and Dreamcast Era, Sonic is irritated by her, always chasing him or hugging him. However, Sonic has stopped running away from her after Sonic Unleashed came out and he has shown some feelings towards her from then.
Oh, don't you worry, my friend. Chip doesn't die in Sonic Unleashed. He's a helpful little creature who goes on adventures with Sonic, spreading positivity and lending a helping hand along the way. Just like a happy little tree in a painting, Chip is there to brighten up the journey and make sure everything turns out just fine.
In Sonic unleashed what happened was Sonic took in some black mist from the evil creature dark giya that emerged from the Earth which changes him into a werehog at night. Chip or light giya didn't have his memories about sealingdarkgiya because dark giys was meant to come out about a 1000 years later butEggman disturbed the balance. Once Sonic had the emeralds back to normal from different giya temples Chip remembers, however the time Chip finds out Dark giya had enough energy to destroy the planet. Sonic is no longer a werehog as the mist emits from his body but with the emeralds he turns super and almost ends it. Sonic's knocked out and Chip summons all the temples to make a guardian and smashes dark giya. Chip and dark giya are once aagaindormant beneath the earth, as Sonic is launched back to the crust's surface with his head stuck in the ground although Chip gave him a bracelet to remember him by. Tails sees him and they go back home.
Chip gets sealed within the Earth along with Dark Gaia, and it is assumed that he goes back to sleep until it is time to return the Earth to normal after Dark Gaia's next awakening. His necklace is the only tangible remnant left of him that Sonic was seen wearing on his wrist at the end of the game.
