There is currently a Runescape 2 and it is a popular MMORPG. You can play it at the website www.runescape.com. It is a F2P (Free to play) and P2P (Pay to play). There was originally Runescape 2, but they renamed runescape 1 "Runescape Classic" and named runescape 2 just "runescape". Runescape classic is runescape 1. There is Runescape Classic, and you have the Runescape 2 at it is called now, the one most people play. My answer.... Runescape was first designed in 1997 by Andrew Gower and his brother. This was named 'Devious Mud' but was not open to public. They then created Runescape (now called runescape classic or runescape 1) and due to the popularity of it, they created runescape 2. Everything on runescape classic got xferred to your account in rs2. This is how rares happened. Eg, disks of returning. After the wilderness update, the trade update and the Grand Exchange update, many people wanted to play Rsc again. So they re open it to anyone else that wishes to play every 6 months.
Im not sure cuz this year it has changed. You can play classic if you log onto the server a few certain days during the year. If you log on during those times it will allow you to play classic if you log on periodically after that

No, Jagex has not released an event for members (more-so veterans) to play on the older RuneScape, however, they've held a few events for members to play on the classic version of RuneScape.
