Teenagers require 8 to 10, because they're growing physically, and mentally. It's the time when their body is changing, and it's also the time when they're perhaps the busiest in life - school, sports, etc. Society really doesn't give teens enough sleep though, school typically starts so early, that it's hard for them to be able to get to bed in time to measure up to the hours their body requires.

Truly, they should be getting 9 to 10 hours of sleep.
