Though it was later revealed that it was a clone that fought and was killed. he fouaght guy, Where Guy opened the 8th and final gate to defeat and capture him. From there a konoha shinobi accompanying Guy used a type of genjustu to go into Kisame's brain and retrieve information. But he didn't die
He dies when he gathers intel on naruto and killer bee. he kills himself by making his own shark eat him
