Shikaku, Shikamaru's father, nominated that Hatake Kakashi should be the six Hokage, the Fire Daimyo and the council though it was an amazing idea, but Danzo interrupted the whole thing and said "Kakashi follows the Third's ethics and that it destroyed Konohagakure somehow!" Which instantly changed the council's mind, somehow, who then appointed Danzo as the acting six Hokage.
The jonin's however did not have a vote yet for the new Hokage, and I doubt they would vote for Danzo in the first place.
Anywho, recent events change everything. With Danzo running away from the meeting, and using his Shisui Sharingan on Mifune, caused all the other Kages to not trust him enough to be a leader for the alliance between the Shinobi Forces. The Kages thought Kakashi would be the most suitable choice for the position of Hokage. Gaara went looking for Naruto, who was with Kakashi, and told him that he should be the Hokage, which Kakashi agreed to. Although Kakashi isn't the actual Hokage yet, he will be the acting Hokage, like Danzo did before him.
its been his dream since the start. he probably will become hokage ( maybe now anytime soon though). He has shown much progress if you think about it. From shadow clone to resenshurikien. So he probably will become hokage, possibly 7th or 8th.
