It depends on the type of ammunition you purchase. You can get primer-powered 22 cartridges from Aguilla that only travel 400 feet per second. And some high-velocity ammunition approaches 1900 feet per second. Of course, the same ammunition will travel slower when fired from a handgun than from a rifle, because there is less barrel length to contain the burning powder. And the lower power cartridges may not have enough energy to cycle a semi-auto mechanism.
