good question, but what usually happens is it is eaither scrathced or something in your gaming system scratches the disk.

Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games will all play on the original Gameboy Advance as well as the Gameboy Advance SP. (I work in a pre-played retro game store and I own a GBA SP and play GB games on it frequently)

i find the newer games wont load on my edge card and some wont save. I have actually downloaded the newest EDGE operating system at www.edge-ds.cn , not sure if it will fix it but maybe you should try that.

You have to beat the game in order to be able to save when ever you want. Unless you've reached and beat world 8 saving your game is impossible.
