Well if you root your Nook using an SD card, you can choose how much music or movies it will hold. Plus you can get the Android Marketplace where there are 1000's of free games to choose from!
They have 3 different sizes of SD cards, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB, so you can get what is right for you. Plus they already have many of the most popular apps and games installed and ready for you to use, such as Angry Birds, Words With Friends, and Netflix.
Also worth noting, doing this does not void your warranty or change the Nook, you take the card out and it is back to the way it was!! Basically while you have the micro SD card in, you have a $600 Android Tablet, fully functional!

You can find free Nook apps on the Barnes & Noble website or in the Nook app store on your Nook device. Simply search for "free apps" in the app store to browse and download a variety of free apps available for your Nook.
On the Nook HD, you can purchase apps in the Nook Shop, it's one of the icons located at the bottom of the home screen. However, not all Apple App Store apps are available for the Nook, so don't get your hopes up if there's an Apple app you want for your Nook and it's not there. You'll have to find out if the apps you want are available on the Nook. There are free ones too that are fun and useful, but most of the high-quality apps available require payment.

The Barnes and Noble Nook has no built-in ability to run third-party apps, despite it being built on Android. The only way to have a Nook run third-party apps, is to jailbreak or "root" your device which naturally voids the warranty and may not even be possible on newer models of the Nook.
iBooks, nook, kindle reader: any of these are great apps
