Also, you should check the specific weakness of the monster you want to kill (for example, slayer monster). There are different types of ranged weapons; a good options for thrown weapons is normal knives for the main hand, and off-hand knives for the other hand - for example, rune knives and off-hand rune knives. Note that these somewhat expensive. For monsters weak against bolts, you can use an off-hand rune crossbow. For normal bows, it seems that all of them are two-handed, so you can't use an off-hand weapon.
