The new Slim PS3 are very slow to overheat because of some of the changes to the hardware, but the never had a failure rate that would limit play to only a few hours. Do it your self all you need is a philips screw driver take ps3 apart and get to mother board you need soldering gun to unsolder that soldering bridge and it will work just fine. Step by step guidance is provided all over the web on youtube ect.

I dont know about the first part of your question (Did not understand anything) But your PS3 overheats when you play for 4 hours straiight and if you play for 5 hours straight you ps3 can explode! not into fire but it will explode inside and then it wont work again
