A joystick cap cover for a pap should be easily pushed on top of the joystick. If the cap does not go on easily, then there could be something in the way or the cap could be broken.
if it is not gamestop look on eBay or craigs list
Step 1 Turn off your PSP by sliding the power button up. On the back, a battery cover covers the PSP battery. Remove both the battery cover and the battery.Step 2 Remove the two screws located underneath the PSP battery, and place them to the side. You will remove five screws total. Unscrew the two screws on the opposite side of the PSP battery. Remove the final screw on the bottom edge of the PSP.Step 3 Grip the PSP from both sides and gently pull the front cover off of the PSP. This will display all of the inner workings of the PSP, including the analog joystick assembly. Lift the joystick assembly out and up to remove it from the PSP.Step 4 Locate your new joystick assembly and snap it into the spot where you removed the old one. Place the cover back onto the PSP and replace all of the screws that you removed. Place the battery back into the PSP and snap the cover into place.

The joystick assembly needs to be removed and replaced. 5 (1001 model) or 7 screws (2001 model) are removed to allow you to take the faceplate off. The 1001 model joystick is screwed to the inside surface of the faceplate. The 2001 model is held to the motherboard by 2 screws. The motherboard MUST be lifted up slightly before removing the old joystick. And you MUST transfer the clear contact gel from the old joystick to the new before installing the new one. DO NOT DESTROY THE CONTACT GEL by carelessly ripping the old joystick out. Good luck finding a replacement on planet Earth if you destroy it.
