It isn't really all that tough, actually to beat Roark with Piplup. Simply train it to at least level 8-which is when it learns Bubble; a strong move to use against rock types. If you have the time and the patience then you might as well train it to level 12 to 14, which is the level of Roark's pokemon. Have fun. ^.^

just go and beat it! you need a fire or flying type Pokemon to beat that gym b/c if you started out with piplup or turtwig you might have trouble. you can catch ponyta or starly and train them to at least lv 17 make sure your ponyta knows ember it makes life easy.
