Without a router you don't need to portforward. To get an IP adress without a router follow these steps:
1. Make a new folder on your desktop and name it want you want (ex. minecraft Server)
2. Download the "Multiplayer Server" software in this link: www.minecraft.net/download
3. Place the Download in the folder (if you don't see .exe at the end of the download called Minecraft Server rename it by putting .exe at the end).
4.Run the program if you see any "Error" messages ignore them it just couldn't find the files that have just popped up in the folder. Close the program by typing in "Stop" at the bottom of the program.
5. Go to the start menu and type in "cmd" select the option at the top of the menu. After it opens type ipconfig and look for the "IPv4 Adress" write it down or memorize it.
6. Go back to the folder you made and enter the "IPv4 Adress" (this is also the IP adress) in the section in the program called "Server" with a blue notepad next to it don't mix it up withthe other "Server" program.
7. Run the "Minecraft Server" program and wait until it's done starting the server again and open Minecraft, login, go to multiplayer, add the server add the name of the server IF the server is whitelisted( the option to
white-list is at the bottom of the "Server" program delete "false" then type in "true" this also works for the other options to activate them (ex. spawn monsters). Then go
to the whitelist program in the folder and type in the names of the people you only want to play) you do not have to put the name of the server if there is no whitelist, then enter the IP adress then test it.
8. You're done!!!
Port forward it.
Yes, buying the game is not needed to make a server. However, you must know how to port forward and your router as well as your information to your router (username and password). If you are interested in setting up your own server, feel free to message me and I'll instruct you through it, as I've set up many servers. I've provided links to a port forwarding site as well as the download link for the up-to-date Minecraft server. -Mr. Andy

If your Minecraft won't connect to any server simply restart your computer and the router.
No, you do not. You can host a Minecraft server as long as you have connection. Please note that you need to open your ports on your router to make a Minecraft server. If you do not have access to this, you can download a VPN-software like Hamachi or Cisco.

Router You need to find out your IP address and Login credentials. Login and usually you need to click the advanced wizard or advanced settings tab and you can Port Forward there. It depends if you have a Router etc. and the make and model.
A public server is that you have to buy it but a dedicated server to make public means you have to forward the ports of your router.
If your Minecraft won't connect to any server simply restart your computer and the router.
They didnt port forward.
Yes, you can!You will need to put all the files onto the USB and configure the server.properties file first and also Port-Forward the router you are hosting from. This can be done, but sometimes this will make the server lag as the server has to re-adjust to the settings.
