More accurately, the Egyptian God cards are simply not legitimate game cards. Rather than comparing them to a card like Dark Hole, which is a legitimate card, but banned from advanced format, the Egyptian Gods are not meant to be used in a Duel in the first place. For one, the backs are different, and lack the correct logo. They also have no effect text, and indeed aren't even Effect monsters. They are not legal cards in any way.

While people do invent rules for them, this is strictly for casual play, agreed on before the game starts. They cannot be used in any way, in any other tournament, with the exception of the JUMP-EN037 Obelisk the Tormentor, who has been made for legal game play.

*Note: Konami has also released a legalized version of The Winged Dragon of Ra. To date, only Slifer the Sky Dragon has yet to have a legal Effect Card version.
