Bella gets pregnant in the beginning of the book and the baby is half vampire so its too strong, and starts killing her and breaking her bones because it grows really fast, when she gives birth the baby almost kills her so, to save her, Edward turns her into a vampire.
Bella turns into a vampire when she is giving birth to Renesme. Edward turns her into a vampire because if he didn't she would have died.
In Breaking Dawn on page... let me get my book... page 386 chapter 19 : Burning. but it mostly talks about it in chapter 20 : New.
