What if everything in life had it's own programmable sound effect? For instance, when you take that first sip of cold beer after work, instead of hearing the bottle open and the sound of swallowing, you'd hear angels singing and melodic sighs of refreshment from all around. I'd program my sounds so that when I sliced vegetables, they scream, each in their own unique vegetable way. Then you would know why sound effects are important.
Sound is extremely important in films and television because they convey the thoughts of the actors scene on screen. Music also plays a big role in that it conveys the mood that the director or screenplay writer wants the audience to perceive.
Without sound, you would basically have just pretty pictures.
