"Best" is subjective according to you needs, wants, pocketbook, conditions of employment.
Answer:There are a number of good submachine guns. Probably the leader is the Isreali Uzi. What other gun can be buried in the sand for a week, dug up, brushed off, and fired without a complete cleaning? None but the Uzi.For shear knock-down power (when the shooter can hit what he intends), and instilling the sense of fear in enemy combatants, nothing beats the Thompson.
However, the first answerer was correct in pointing out that "best" is a subjective term.

today the most advanced SMG is the kriss super V because it reverts the recoil downwards to reduce recoil and gives the user shoulder comfort
A sub-machine gun fires pistol cartridges. A machine gun fires rifle rounds.
Yes. A sub machine gun is a machine gun that fires pistol rounds and Uzis are 9mm.
MP5
The .45 Thompson sub-machine gun and M3 sub machine gun (grease gun) were used in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam War. A sub-machine gun is called a SUB machine gun because it uses "pistol" ammunition. The M3 sub-machinegun looked exactly like a grease gun; hence the name.
Sub machine gun
UMP.45 is defiantly the best but the MP5K works well
