Every pregnancy is different and every mom is different. Women who are pregnant for the first time generally feel movement later, then women who have previously given birth. Doctors aren't sure why this happens, if the experienced mom know what it feels like, so they feel it sooner or if their uterus is more sensitive.
The normal range is between 13 and 25 weeks, the first movements may be a random bump felt once and not felt again for a couple days in early pregnancy, making you wonder if you really felt something or not! Soon you will notice multiple bumps, then as the weeks move on you may wonder, how one little baby can be causing so much action! Especially when you are trying to sleep!
Later as space get tight you will have less frantic movement all over and more deliberate motions, a fist in the ribs or a foot sliding across your belly as the baby shifts in tight quarters.
Starting in week 28 your doctor will probably ask you to keep a kick count, it is a chart showing how long it takes to feel 10 movements of any kind. Ideally you will be able to feel 10 movements in two hours, usually you will feel ten movements in a much shorter time. Later as there is less room, the movement will be less dramatic but more forceful. If in a two hour span you don't feel ten movements - drink a large glass of water, have a little stretch yourself and try again later. If this happens twice in a row call your doctor and follow her or his instructions.
