Before large-scale slaving from West Africa began, some blacks from West Africa were taken to Europe, and a few to the Americas. Their fate was in the hands of their captors, so you could call that slavery, though most were well treated. It is probably hard to determine exactly which voyage this first occured on.

The ship that arrive in Jamestown, VA in 1619 was named the "White Lion" its caption was named capt Jobe, he traded 20 slaves for food and water to complete his journey to Europe. There was another ship with him name the "Treasury" but very little is known about this ship. Both of these ship captions were Parities who had capture these ships in the Caribbeans, that's why the White Lion was report to be a Dutch man-o-war which is a war ship with many guns.
