Over Excitation is a condition when the Excitation System is providing too much field current and as a result, the rotor of the generator will over heat. The Excitation System is equipped with an Over Excitation Limiter. This limiter acts to reduce the Excitation Current if this condition exists Underexcitation is a condition when the generator is not getting enough Excitation Current. If the generator does not get enough Excitation Current, it can be un-synchronized with the grid. We call this slipping a pole. If this occurs, the generator can be severely damaged. What is the difference between a seperately excited DC generator and DC shunt generator?

The difference between a separately excited DC generator and a Shunt DC generator is that for a separately excited Dc generator , the excitation field winding is supplied by an external source different from that supplying the armature while for shunt generator, the excitation field windind is connected in series with the armature and supplied by a single source.

What is loss of excitation in generators?

A loss of excitation will cause the generator to start drawing more and more reactive power over time. Over the first few seconds, and until about thirty seconds after the LOE (depending on the load on the generator before the loss of excitation occurred), active power will stay relatively constant, but reactive power will continue to be absorbed from the rest of the system, and voltage levels will drop. Eventually, the magnetic field between the stator and rotor degrades too much, pole slipping and loss of synchronism will occur. At this point, catastrophic damage will likely have been done to the generator.

What is the difference between external and internal characteristics of dc shunt generator?

What is the major difference between a marine generator and an industrial generator?

An industrial generator has some form of built-in cooling system. A marine generator relies on pumping water from the lake or ocean the vessel is in for cooling.

What are the Difference between dc motor and dc generator?

a motor Will do work by consuming power a generator is just the opposite

What is the difference between a commercial power generator and a regular power generator?

The difference between a commercial power generator and a regular power generator is that a commercial one is much expensive than the regular one. It's much better to purchase the regular generator if your not planning to use it for business purposes.

What is the difference between a wing and a airfoil?

there is not much difference between them but a wing is usually attached to a bird or a plane and the airfoil is attached in a planes' engine

What is the difference between a wing and an airfoil?

the difference is that the wing is attached to the bussom of a bird and an airfoil is attached to the clock of the plane.
