I believe the colteer was made by colt factory........................
Don't think they were made or sold under another brand...............
I believe it's a Colt ( Colteer ) Semi or Bolt
The Hawthorne Warrior M825 .22 LR was sold by Montgomery Wards in 1957 and 1958. It is actually a Mossberg Model 140 rifle.
Not certain, but I THINK your rifle may be a Colt Colteer semi automatic, made for Montgomery Wards under their Western Field label. Some of the cross reference data is spotty. Google images for Colteer, and see if it is similar to your rifle.
It is a seven shot Bolt Action rifle sold in the late fifties (57 & 58 ?) by Montgomery Wards
Several companies made firearms marked with the Hawthorne and Westernfield Brands of Montgomery Wards. They inlcuded Mossberg and Savage, along with Noble, Colt, Marlin and Winchester. If you will repost with the model number, we may be able to match it to the original make/model.
Without more information (model number or description) we cannot give you an answer for certain, however, most of the Hawthorne branded rifles were made for Montgomery Wards stores by the Mossberg Company
" value of the colteer 4-22 rifle ? "
Hawthorne was sold through Montgomery Wards. The 820b is actually a Mossberg 320b sold under the Hawthorne trade name. Book value is $20 to $100 US, but they are great little rifles.
I understand it was Colt Colteer.
Not sure how long ago this question was posted, but the Hawthorne Sentry rifles were actually made by Colt Firearms Co for Sears and is the same as the Colt "Colteer" 1-22. Cold marketed both a single shot rifle and semi auto rifle that were named Colteer. There is some discussion as to whether COLT firearms actually manufactured these rifles themselves or had the manufacture vended out to a company named Kodiak. In any event, it is a clone of the Colt Colteer. A good rifle for it's intended market, a basic single shot "Boy's" rifle, and made in the late 1950's.
