This is my question, but I wanted to give a little more detail.
I am doing genealogy, and one of my husband's great-great uncles died in 1939 with a gunshot caused from a 12 gauge shotgun to his left armpit, resulting in a shattered shoulder (upward direction?) which of course caused hemorrhage and shock (actual cause of death). He lived rurally with his wife. He was 75 years old. Wife was the reporter.
I find it odd that someone could shoot themselves in the armpit considering the length of the firearm. Also, I don't think shooting yourself in the armpit is a common target for suicides. Any feedback, but especially professional forensic feedback is greatly welcomed. Thanks.

The Armpit-Forearm Drag is a technique usually used by emergency first responders to move a person who is unable to move based on injuries they have sustained. You would position yourself behind the patient, reach under their arms, through the armpit, grab their forearms and then drag them. You would be walking backwards while you drag the patient.

Actually, the average human may not be as flexible to do that. Therefore, only more flexible humans can lick there own armpit. so, my answer would have to be, absolutely not!! If you can do it, that means your abnormal. YES = Abnormal Human. NO = Average Human. Try it yourself.......................
Theodore's nickname in Holes (both book and movie) is Armpit. Although in the movie, they make out that it is because he has bad armpit odour, it is actually because, while at Camp Green Lake Correctional Facility, he was bitten by a scorpian. He was actually bitten in the forearm, but the pain travelled up to his armpit. He started complaining about the pain in his armpit, and therefore he was nicknamed Armpit. This information was showcased in Louis Sachar's sequel to Holes: Small Steps. This story is intirely about Armpit, taking small steps to regain a usual life.
An armpit is a cavity found beneath the junction of the arm and the shoulder.
