The answer is.......Neither is better. But they are different. Sealed enclosures, in general, have higher power handling and smoother response (more accurate) than ported enclosures. However, sealed enclosures do not have the low response capabilities of ported enclosures. Typically sealed enclosures have significant roll off (less output) below 60 hz. An enclosure having a single port emphasizes a particular frequency determined (mainly) by the volume of the port. This extends the total response of the speaker and enclosure (usually down to the 35-40 hz range). Higher "order" enclosures use multiple ports and chambers to tune down even lower.

Why is it important to have the right subwoofer enclosure?

It is important to have the right sub woofer enclosure because different enclosures can affect the quality of the sound. Sealed boxes offer better sound quality but you will sacrifice volume. Ported boxes offer better volume, but the sound quality is not as good.

What is the best enclosure for Alpine Type R 12's?

a ported box is better i have tried a sealed as well as ported and the ported dilivers far more power

Are bigger subwoofer boxes better?

yes and no. it depends on the size of the speaker and where the speaker will be located to perform. For instance, if a 15" speaker is placed in a trunk with very little space, a smaller box would be ideal not only because of trunk space, but the sound will have more space to travel, rather than it reverberate quickly back to its starting point. But a pro of a bigger subwoofer enclosure is that the more box you have, the more it can be ported. With a bigger ported box, the subwoofer can perform closer to its RMS.

What is a better subwoofer box one that is ported or vented for 10 speakers?

When referring to subwoofer enclosures, ported and vented are the same thing, as opposed to a sealed box. Sealed boxes are said to provide a harder "hit" and better sound quality but may not sound as loud as a ported box. Neither type of box is particularly "better" than the other, so the choice is between SQ (sound quality) of a sealed box vs. the louder but slightly poorer sound of a ported box. Hope this helps!

Can you tune a sealed subwoofer box?

Yes, but not as vast as you can tune a ported box. But yes it it possible.

Why does your subwoofer lose output when the trunk is closed?

This is due to the restriction of air movement on the back side or the cone . This has to do with the properties of a ported speaker verses a non ported suspended speaker.

Yes it does! It is really loud in a hatch back or SUV vehicle. If you have sedan or trunk car the ported enclosure really helps get the sound to you through the seat. ?

a ported box will hit the lows better than a sealed box. and they will hit harder.. but a ported box will be louder.

What is the difference between off base and onbase enclosure?

Off base uses a ported box to displace air and fluctuate the cone on a sub speaker whereas on bass is a sealed box that uses compression in the airtight enclosure to fluctuate the cone.

Is a sealed box better than a ported box?

It depends on what your looking for a ported box gives off more bass but a sealed box is a clearer sound

Phoenix gold titanium elite 12 ported box specs?

I wouldn't recommend a ported box for this sub as the qts is higher than .6, i would use 1.6-2 cu.ft sealed and stuffed with poly-fil, or go infinite baffle. The only reason why the manufacturer says it can be used and sealed and ported is because of marketing, a ported enclosure would most likely over bloat the low end and cause a frequency hump down low

If you install a 10 inch square sub woofer in the trunk will you be able to hear it affectively in a BMW 325i?

You will be able to hear it almost anywhere you put it. You need to make sure that you have the proper size enclosure for your sub, also make sure you use the proper box type for the sub (sealed, ported or bandpass). The only other factor would be how powerful the amplifier is, so with a properly built box with enough power you will most definitely be able to hear your sub.
