The fact is that thinking in terms of calories is too simplistic. Yes, in general, you must begin to expend more energy than you are consuming. However, not all calories count equally. You may be able to lose 15 pounds in weight by making just one dietary adjustment, namely, eliminate refined (processed) carbohydrates. Consider eliminating all dairy products as well; many people have an intolerance that can contribute to weight gain.
Here is why: humans have been evolving for two million years. Your ancestors flourished physically on a natural diet. The more you eat like them, the more you will be closer to flourishing physically like them. Have you ever seen fat wild land animals? There is no such thing. Your ancestors were not fat, either. They NEVER consumed processed or refined carbohydrates (except for, occasionally, honey) or dairy products.
It you eat much more as they did, you may be amazed at how fast you lose weight and keep it off. For more understanding, educate yourself. Multiply your ideal weight by ten and that's how much calories you should consume daily to lose the weight.
you would die if you ate that many calories. to lose weigh find out how many calories you should be eating for your current weight and then find out how many calories you should be eating for your target weight. slowly inch your calories down to that target weight range. and really you should ask your doctor about weight loss. to see if you even need it.
