You should take your weight and multiple it by a number between 12 and 15 depending on how active you are. If you are very active, then multiple it by 15. If you are more sedentary, then multiple it by 12. If you are some where in between then use that number.
So let's say you are some what active. We will use the number 13.

If you want to lose 1 pound per week, then take 500 calories off of 2340 and you will get 1840. This is because 500 * 7 (days in a week) = 3500 calories which equals one pound.
Your goal should be 1 pound per week because you are more likely to keep it off for a long time. You will need to recalculate your number of calories consumed to lose weight every time you lose 10 pounds.
