Toxicity of any drug is described by its Therapeutic Index--the ratio of lethal dose to effective dose. For instance, if the effective dose--the dose that gets you high--of Soma (the fake one in Brave New World, not carisoprodol) is 10 ng/ul and the lethal dose is 100 ng/ul, Soma's therapeutic index is 10.

Marijuana has no therapeutic index as it has no lethal dose. The only other drug I know of that can come close to saying that is LSD, whose lethal dose is 12,000 micrograms--this for a drug that's normally taken 100 micrograms at a time. (Given that, erowid reports that ONE person has died of an LSD overdose; the guy thought it was speed and injected 320mg--not micrograms but milligrams--of acid.)

What is difference between hard and soft drug?

Hard drugs are typically more potent and addictive substances that have a higher potential for abuse and dependency, such as heroin and cocaine. Soft drugs, on the other hand, are usually less potent and less addictive, like marijuana and prescription painkillers. Hard drugs are more strictly regulated and are associated with more severe legal and health consequences compared to soft drugs.

Why ammonia is more toxic than urea?

Ammonia is more toxic than urea because it is a strong alkaline compound that can disrupt cellular processes and cause damage to tissues and organs. Urea, on the other hand, is a less toxic waste product that is more easily excreted by the body in urine.

What factors may make a drug a gateway drug?

There is no such thing as a ( gateway drug ). Some people would tell you that marijuana is a gateway drug that will eventually lead to other types of drug abuse and that is not always true. Some people who start abusing drugs do not start out on things like marijuana. I have talked to people who have NEVER used marijuana and have a bad addiction to methamphetamine, narcotic pain relievers such as lortab, percocet, and other types of (pain pills), heroin, LSD, and many other commonly abused drugs. So you cannot label a specific (drug) as a gateway drug because of the high percentage of people who start out using drugs by doing other illegal substances. With saying that there is a percentage of people who do start out using marijuana and other less (hard) drugs that do move on to bigger things, but at the same time there are ALOT of chronic marijuana users that never use any other drugs.

Which is more dangerous alcohol or marijuana?

Alcohol by far. The withdrawal symptoms from alcohol can kill you alone and kills many many people each year while marijuana has never killed anyone in it's 5000 years of use. It's hundreds of times less toxic than caffeine, while you can get alcohol poisoning easily in one sitting an die, you would have to smoke or 15,000 lbs of marijuana in 15 minutes to overdose. Marijuana isn't physically addicting and doesn't cause a dependence comparable to other drugs. It's slightly less addicting than coffee. Alcohol is extremely addictive and causes sever dependence. I suggest going to marijuana.com for more in depth answers to these types of questions involving marijuana. It's a simple forum and the ads go away if you register.

Oregon law on drug charges?

The answer to this question really depends on the type of drugs, the amount of those drugs and what was being done with those drugs. Most drug laws apply to possessing, selling or manufacturing drugs. Growing pot for example is manufacturing marijuana and is a felony. Oregon has a Medical Marijuana law that allows people with a Medical Marijuana card under certain circumstances to possess, use, grow and sometime dispense marijuana. Possessing, selling and manufacturing controlled substances without a license is illegal in the State of Oregon and is classified as a felony under the Oregon Revised Statutes. The only exception to the rule is that possession of less than an ounce of Marijuana is considered "for personal use" and is only a violation, which is not punishable by jail time. There are other consequences of all drug charges that could affect your immigration status, and your ability to attain government aid such as housing, loans and benefits. Anyone facing a drug charge should obtain an attorney.
