That all depends on the amount of original finish remaining,if the firearm is pitted,or exhibits small rust spots etc.I have just purchased one on Gun Broker for 500 dollars plus shipping. Most of these revolvers are selling for between 650-900 dollars depending on the overall condition of the revolver, the original grips and lanyard ring, and a fair amount of blueing remaining.

That depends on the condition of your smith and wesson model 1917 revolver. If the lanyard ring and military markings on the butt are all there and the revolver has a good bore and blueing we could be talking 750-1,000 dollars.if not then the gun could be worth 300-550 dollars.
value depends on overall condition. perhaps $350 - $500
The smith and Wesson model 39 was introduced to the public in 1955.But in 1949 the U.S. Army used it as a service pistol trials
Usually in the $300-$600 range

In answer to the question: What is the value of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 revolver with a serial number under 5000 in good condition? Well I don't know what caliber you hand gun is! 38 or 45 caliber. I can say that you mite have a gun of high value. From the info that I have found, by Dixie Gun Works.Com there is a 1917 model Army revoler 45 caliber ACP six shot with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. This handgun was owned by Colonel Frederick Lewis Miller Masury, until his death in 1950 in Califorina. His gun is marked on the bottom of the butt U.S./Army/Model/1917/no/68430.If you'r seial number is well below this, you mite have a gun of greater value.Because this gun of the Colonel's ,has a value of $2.450.00.I hope that this has been of help to you Good Luck. You can find more info on the web page:Dixie Gun Works.Com,again good luck.
i have on for sale on eBay right now look up collector1828
The S&W DA45 revolvers were chambered in 45 ACP as they were made for the war effort and ammo compatability when the 1911 was in short supply. If your particular specimen does not have "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917" marked on the butt then it was a civilian model. Depending on condition and such, I have seen them bring anywhere from $250 to $600. Hope this helps... Chuck
