Xbox 360's don't always overheat. A select few of the consoles do overheat, and this is generally due to a manufacturing fault. However to minise the risk of overheating ensure that there is space around the 360 so the fans can remove the hot air from the console. If you get the 3 red lights then Microsoft reapair your console for free so long as you purchased it no more than 3 years before you send it back for repair. The 3 red lights are a sign tof overheating, and to go into more detail this is what happens:
The 360 had a manufacturing fault or the air vents were covered and so the 360 overheated, and got so hot that the solder balls on the CPU or gpu chip melted, and due to the fact the the 360 motherboard is able to flex a little, when the 360 was turned off and cooled down these solder balls solidified again, however they solidified in the wrong place or in two halfs etc. and so the 360 shows the 3 red lights to indicate this fault.

there is always a plan B if your x box 360 has 3 ring of death you just half to put a cloth on the console not wrapped just covering the console's body and leave it there for about 25 minutes then that will cool it down after woods press the power button and your good to go

YES it will overheat especially if you have a 1st generation. you will know when this happens and its beyond fixing when you get the "red ring of death" instead of the ring around the power button being green it RED. this means the memory coil is melted and wont turn on or work. if you hav a 2nd generation they fixed this problem mostly but it can still happen. i wouldn't worry about the 2nd gen. but if you have a 1st gen. i would stongly caution you to take breaks in between playing and never leave it on if your not there. if you don't know wat GEN. it is don't worry the first GEN. was from when it first came out to 2 yrs later so if really old its probably a first gen.

Yes it does after a while when it gets the 3 rings of death.
The 3 rings of death is when the x box 360 overheats and where the power button is, instead of green lights there is red rings.
If you play the x box 360 for too long it will probably get the 3 rings of death but u can always send it in to Microsoft to get it fixed.
Well for the new xbox 360's no more than 12 hours, And for the old xbox 360's no more than 4 - 6 hours.
30 min - 2 hours depending on how long you played and how ventilated your xbox 360 is. Make sure your xbox has breathing room so it does not overheat.
It does overheat and you get RROD (Red Ring of Doom/Death) but the Xbox Slim has fixed that problem but I dont know about the Xbox Elite.
