In the US most places require licensing from the state. That may require approved equipment and specific location requirements. It may also require training in proper health procedures and even medical supervision.

The first need you need is to make up your mind very well on whaT kind of tatoo you want. Remember: it will stay with you for the rest of your life. Bring in a picture of the tattoo you want. It doesn't matter if it's hand-drawn or computer-printed, it just needs to be a hard copy. Shave and clean the area before you leave for the parlor. Buy a scent-free soap to clean the area after you get it tattooed (Dove and Neutrogena work well). If it's a reputable parlor, they'll have aftercare instructions for a tattoo. Ask for instructions. They will generally have worthwhile cleaning supplies there at the parlor.

You have to be able to draw and use a needle or vibrating needle to trace the drawing and fill it in with coloured ink. Also bear the sight of blood, and be able to ignore somebody else's pain

You normally go to collage and get a degree in art and then find a tattoo parlor(Miami Ink) and try to get a job. It can be quite difficult.
