There is a little gray X in the top right corner of the post that shows up when highlighted. Click this and it should remove the post/message.

In Facebook there is a notation for new messages. After viewing these messages it is possible to delete them individually or return to the list and delete all. This is done by using the corner x.
You can to an extent. After about 20 messages the others begin to delete.

They will be stored there forever until you delete them. Even after you delete them, they will stay stored on Facebook's servers for 30-60 days until they are finally permanently deleted by their servers.
When on the 'Inbox' page on your left there are three tabs: -Messages -Updates -Sent Click on 'Sent'.
