one of the ways to broadly find the age of the gun is to look at the proof marks this should be a small symbol roughly 5 mm X 5mm which will have been stamped on the action or on the breech of the barrel.

You should find a verry small crown with 2 letters underneath, an explanation of the symbols and the periods that they are associated with are illustrated in the BASC handbook for shooting but they can also found on the internet when you search for Birming Proof House proof marks.
