There is really no research on this, so I wouldn't risk it. Marijuana is hundreds of times less toxic than caffeine, but there's no telling what the smoke would do. I would imagine just the lack or disruption of oxygen being harmful.

Edit by Granny Storm Crow- There is a study "Mortality Within the First 2 Years in Infants Exposed to Cocaine, Opiate, or Cannabinoid During Gestation", that showed that the "cannabis only" babies actually had a LOWER mortality rate than the "no drugs" babies in the study!

A lady named Jen Alexander did a in-depth (and more readable) news article on the study- "Pregnant Women Smoking Pot Could Reduce Infant Mortality". There are also other studies on children prenatally exposed to cannabis, and it's effects on their development by Dr. Melanie Dreher (run a search on her name to find them).

And I, also, worry that the carbon monoxide and combustion products could potentially harm the baby, but you don't need to smoke cannabis! There are machines called vaporizers that gently heat the cannabis to release the THC, but does not burn the herb. And there are always those "infamous" brownies! Glycerin tinctures provide a third "smokeless" way to use cannabis for people to use cannabis.
