it is my belief that Denturite was discontinued so that
the manufacturer will be able to steer the consumer
to buy something much more expensive.
welcome to America!
where if you're too poor to be healthy, you'll die!
same thing with Primatene Mist Asthma inhalers,
glaxo tried desperately to get all asthmatic Americans to buy their 80-100 dollar inhalers by creating an urban myth that you can make meth from Primatene inhalers, consequently most stores quit carrying it and it is still hard to find. if you had 10000 of the inhalers, theoretically you could extract enough epinephrine to intoxicate 1 adult human for about 5 minutes.
You could be right. Many products are discontinued so the drug companies can introduce a new product at a higher price to increase their profit margins. They do not care about the public that uses and depends on their product.
However, I used to use the Denturite. Toward the end, it became hard to find at the different stores that I would normally find it. At Wal-Mart most of the time, the shelf was empty and after I inquired about the empty shelf was told that Wal-Mart was having shipping problems from Comb (the manufacturer). Also, on 3 separate occasions, I had used an older box that I had purchased a couple of months prior to use and it resulted in chemical burns on my gums. I contacted Comb, and complained and they said that they would investigate. There was no apology, no coupon for a replacement, and they wanted me to send in the remainder of the refuse that was scraped from my denture. My guess, and it is only a guess, is they had legal action(s) and/or complaints and investigations by the DEA and the FDA. I don't know of any company, anywhere that just discontinues a product without good reason. Especially a product like Denturite. It was a specialty item that nobody else made at the time and they made millions each year on it. As for current times, there is a replacement type product that can be found on the web that did the same thing as the Denturite at twice the price. Also, It became a blessing in disguise as I found a much better more permanent product "Permasoft II" that actually does a much better job and lasts up to 2 years. It can be purchased on Ebay. I am hoping that this will help others that depend on a liner for their dentures.
