Losing ten pounds in seven days without trying is not a good thing unless there has been some type of medical supervision or procedure, such as the removal of fluid from the condition called "ascites" in diseases of the liver, or , as another example, in child birth.

Some medications such as the "diuretic" meds such as Lasix or spironolactone can cause a few pounds gain or loss in one week, but for the most part losing 10 pounds in one week is not a good thing.

It is always good to try a healthy form of weight loss if your doctor has told you that you should lose a certain amount of weight. There are plenty of programs both on and offline that can help a person lose everything from a pesky few pounds to an enormous amount of weight. There is bariatric surgery, an option for the "morbidly obese" (Body Mass Index or B.M.I. greater than 30) and countless other ways to lose weight.

Almost every reputable diet/weight loss program will tell you that losing ten pounds in one week is NOT the way to a lasting, healthy diet/weight loss plan for your life!

****If a person loses ten pounds in one week and is NOT trying through dieting , then they should immediately see their doctor, as there could be something serious going on.***

The "rule of thumb" that most doctors use is that if you lose or gain more than five pounds in one week,(without consciously trying to ) you should pay attention and consult a doctor if it continues.
