To make a Fusion, move the cursor onto a card; then press the Up on the Directional Pad. This will cause the card you selected to be raised slightly higher than the rest of your Hand with the number "1" on the upper left-hand corner. Then move the cursor to another card that you want to fuse with and press the Up again to select that card as number "2". Then press X to choose the location of where to put the card. Press X again to confirm. If the combination is correct, the two cards will combine together. Note that you can fuse more cards into the combination, but never more than two cards at a time. The cards will fuse in the order that you place them. You can also fuse cards from your Hand with cards on the field. To do so, select a card like you normally would to place on the field. Then, instead of choosing the next available space to place your card, you can move your cursor over an existing card and press X to initiate a Fusion between the two.

For example, if you chose Electric Lizard as "1", Baby Dragon as "2", and Metal Dragon as "3", the Fusion would resolve as follows:

1. Electric Lizard and Baby Dragon fuse to form Thunder Dragon.
2. Thunder Dragon is then used as the next Fusion Material Monster with "3".
3. Thunder Dragon and Metal Dragon fuse to form Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.

Note that you use the Fusion technique with Equip Spell Cards as well.
