Did shadow die in the impact to space coleny arc?
No because if you played Sonic Heroes which comes after Sonic Adventure 2 you will find he is alive and well in fact you end up finding hundreds of clones of him no one knows whether or not the Shadow we know of is the real version or a clone. Also Shadow stars in his own game Shadow the Hedgehog which also comes after Sonic Adventure 2 which again clearly states Shadow is just fine.

Yes, he does care and he loves her Shadow and amy's relationship is pretty much neutral... They hardly ever interact and Amy's only love interest is Sonic. Actually, in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle he kept his promise to Maria AND Amy Rose. Since that it has been called "The Miracle of Love" So personally I do think Shadow has an affection on Amy... not sure. Some say that in SA2B Amy cried for Shadow after saving the world with Sonic he disappeared.. so they thought he died... (HE DIDN'T DIE! They THOUGHT HE DID.)
