According to Marriland Infernape(62 best Pokemon) is the best, then empoleon(65 best Pokemon), and finally torterra(73 best Pokemon). Personally, they are all good to me. I started with chimchar and got all the starters, so I would know which starters are good . Watch this: Infernape(fire fight) : can kill torterra with fire type attacks and kill empoleon with fighting type attacks, or since empoleon is a water steel type, and steel is weak to fire, fire can also do quite a bit of damage. Empoleon( water steel): can take out infernape with water type moves, and take out torterra with steel/ice type moves. Torterra(grass ground): take out infernape with ground type moves and empoleon with grass type moves. So once they all evolve, they can take out each other. You know what, start with chimchar and trade some other Pokemon for a piplup and a turtwig.
Which is better Empoleon or Torterra?
I would say Torterra, because it has the better overall level up moveset (Earthquake as soon as it evolves at level 32), though Empoleon can learn better TMs. I also prefer it as a Pokemon overall. To be fair, though, Empoleon has the better typing (Water/Steel, while Torterra is Grass/Ground). Looking at this question base stat wise, Empoleon has the better overall base stats, with a base stat total of 530 compared to Torterra's 525. Torterra has the better Attack (109 > 86) and Defense (105 > 88) stats, while Empoleon has the better HP (95 > 84), Special Attack (111 > 75), Special Defense (101 > 85), and Speed (60 > 54) stats.

== == Now for the real answer...you can trash the e4. Aaron can go down to any selection of fire or rock type moves, which you appear to have in abundance. Bertha will fall easily to a combo of torterra and empoleon. Flint can be Surfed away be empoleon. Vespiquen is super effective against Lucian but it may be a bit slow, so u should teach shadow ball to alakazam or something. For Bronzong, just use Infernape. Cynthia's spiritomb will collapse if u use roar of time. For Garchomp if ur empoleon is good enough it should be able to pull of ice beam before getting trashed by Earthquake. Barring that, use Empoleon to vs. Spiritomb and face Dialga against garchomp. Roar of time will settle the battle. Roserade and Gastrodon are pushover - use Infernape and Torterra. Lucario use infernape's close combat. Milotic just do wahtever u want and kill it. == ==
