mine hatched last night.
in terms of time, it will probably hatch by the time you reach the slowpoke plotline. however it depends on a lot of things. the exact time it will take is the amount of time it takes to walk 2560 steps
To fix what the guy said before me, In original silver and gold it was how many steps you walked in the game. I believe it is the same concept in Soul silver and Heart gold. Whether you use it with the Poke'walker or not is beyond me, but I believe it works either way. Hope that this gives you a good idea.
