What do you do after you beat the 1st gym in leader in Pokemon ruby?

After you beat the first gym, go to the right of Rustboro City. If you keep going, you'll see a cave with an old man standing next to it. Try to enter the cave. Before you go in, the old man will say that he lost Peeko (his Wingull). Go into the cave and to the right, you will verse Team Aqua or Team Magma (I don't remember which, but it doesn't matter). Once beating him, go to the route left of Petalburg City and you will find a house. Go in and talk to the old man. He will take you to Dewford Island, where your next gym is.
