Why does Joey Wheeler punch Yugi?
Actually, he punches Yami, not Yugi. It would just be wrong if he punched Yugi. Yami had just lost Yugi's soul to the Seal of Orichalchos, and he is horribly depressed about it and loses hope in everything (he even cries!) until Joey suddenly grabs him, yells, "Get a grip, man!", and punches him in the face, sendng him tumbling to the ground. He wasn't just being violent. He was just trying to get Yami to focus on saving Yugi, instead of moping about it.

No because if you recall Yugi made a brief appearance in GX in the beginning and also if you recall watching an 5Ds a guy who looks like Joey Wheeler shows up and everyone asks if it is THE original Joey so they weren't dead because Yugi and Joey were the same age if not Joey was older.

The entire duel was not shown, just that Joey didn't use Magic cards yet.
