Yes and no. Only on the ps3 60 gb, and maybe a 80 gb. All 60 gigs are backwards compatible. Only one 80 gig.
The 60 GB model PS3 was backward compatible and the 80 GB model was released in 2007 and twice in 2008 both 2008 releases were not backward compatible
The second Generation PS3 80 GB model could play the PS2 games based on Partially software-based PS2 emulation and included 4 USB ports and also had Flash memory card readers. The 3rd generation of PS3 models had the 40 GB, the 80 GB, and the 160 GB Harddrives but only 2 USB ports and do not play PS2 games with backward compatibility."If a PlayStation 3 is not backward compatible, you will not be able to add this function through any hardware (i.e., changing the hard disk drive) or software (i.e., updates, homebrew) upgrades or modifications."
the 40 gig model is 400$ the 80 gig model is 500$ soon a 40 gig model will be replaced by a new one that's just the same but has an 80 gig harddrive The current list price of a PS3 with 120GB is 299.95 at Sony.com USA and the 250GB PS3 is 349.95 retail
Yes you can, and it won't mess up your PS3 Slim warranty either.
You can change your harddrive from 40 GB to 80 GB but it will not make your PS3 an 80 GB model PS3. Nothing will do that. If you are going to increase the size of the hard drive you might as well go for a larger size than 80 GB.
You don't Nothing you can do will allow a PS3 not designed to play PS2 games to play PS2 games Sony says that there is no updates downloads hardware or anything that you can do to change this. See related link"If a PlayStation 3 is not backward compatible, you will not be able to add this function through any hardware (i.e., changing the hard disk drive) or software (i.e., updates, homebrew) upgrades or modifications. "You'll just have to limit yourself to one or the many better PS3 games
No the new 80 GB ones made beginning in August 2008 were not even though the older 80 GB ones with the 4 USB ports from August 2007 could play some PS2 titles
yes you can but not without the playback mode in your ps3. i think that 80 gig ps3's are built with it.
No only the first models with 4 USB ports are backwards compatible and they also vary with the first two models (20 GB & 60 GB) having greater Backward capability than the second two models (60 GB & 80 GB) which included partial software based emulation. Not all of the 80 GB models have Backward compatibility and only the one with 4 USB ports. All 60 GB models have 4 USB ports as does the 20 GB model.
