The best Starter Deck? I personally think Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Starter Deck Jaden Yuki (YSDJ). This Starter Deck contains some of the best basic Spells and Traps that other Starter Decks don't have. It has Magic Cylinder, Lightning Vortex, Brain Control, Smashing Ground... good cards. But if you're planning to start collecting Synchro, just get Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Starter Deck. It has quite weak monsters but you get 3 powerful foil Synchro Monsters! EDIT: But Spells and Traps do not a great Deck make. and Granted the new 5D's starter Deck comes with Synchros, you still need a good strategy. I suggest, if you plan on using the 5D's Starter Deck, you may want to take out most of the monsters, the ones that either A.) aren't Tuners, or B.) aren't warriors. For this deck, you want a lot of Warriors, so when you Synchro Summon Collassal Fighter, he gains 100 ATK for each Warrior in the Graveyard. Plus, Warriors are incredibly supported, if you put in two-three Maurading captains, if you get at least two of them on the Field, your opponent cannot declare an attack on any other warriors, and since the Captains protect one another, as well, presto, the Maruauding Captain Lockout, now combine that with your Powerful Synchro monstersa, and bam, you got yourself a nice looking Deck.

It is against the rules at duel academy, because the teachers can tell that those powerful cards can be use for cheating. if the student use a blue eyes white dragon or obelisk the tormentor on the duel field, it is very likely that the student will be expelled from duel academy.
