Each tournament legal deck must have exactly 60 cards, no more no less. In addition, no more than 4 of any one card (except BASIC energy cards) can be in the deck. The ratio of Pokemon : trainer/supporter/stadium : energy is unrestricted, but a good beginners deck should have around 20 of each.
In Yu-Gi-Oh, a sideboard is called a side deck where you put extra cards in to switch out in between duels. However, a side deck must contain 15 cards or 0 cards.
Under the newly released Master Rules, each player (in official Duels and tournaments) must follow the guidelines below:Main Deck: No less than 40 cards. No more than 60 cards. A player is allowed to have any amount in between. Cannot contain any cards currently on the Forbidden section of the Forbidden/Limited Card List. A player may choose to not have a Side Deck at all. Cannot contain any cards currently on the Forbidden section of the Forbidden/Limited Card List. Can only contain up to 3 copies of a card in the Deck and Side Deck combined. Cannot contain Fusion or Synchro Monsters.Extra Deck: Can contain up to 15 cards. A Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck can contain anywhere between 40 and 60 cards, however most professional players play with 40 cards, since they have a greater chance of drawing the card they need each turn, that could win them the game. Fusion Monsters and Synchro's do not count as your deck, they go in your Extra Deck, as they are now known in 5Ds. If you look on a 5Ds play mat it says Extra Deck, if you look on an original it says Fusion Deck. Fusion Material Monsters and Tuner Monsters however, DO count as your deck and they must be placed within your main deck. Ritual Cards must also be in your main deck, as they do not fall into the category that allows you to place them in your Extra Deck, no idea why since they can't be summoned without a Ritual Spell Card.
"the minimum number is 40 cards after that as many as you want"Actually, now since the 5D era is now upon us, the new stradegy guide that comes with the Yusei mini tin (Contains 3 Yusei duelist packs, 1 Duelist Genesis pack, 3 Holofoil cards from the new Raging battle packs and I Ultra Rare card, in this case Stardust Dragon/Assualt Mode, ($14.92 at Walmart=Canadian Money) the new rules are a Minimum of 40 Cards and a Maximum of 60 Cards. To simplify what this guy just said 40-60 main deck 0-15 in a extra deck main deck has monsters, ritual monsters, spells and traps but side deck has XYZ,synchro and fusion cardsA Yugioh deck is 40 cards minimum and 60 cards maximum. No. In order to make a legal deck, there must be a minimum of 40 cards in it; however, there is no max. You are also allowed to make a side deck with exactly 15 cards with which you can modify your current deck between duels. You can also have an "Extra Deck" which contains all your fusion and synchro monsters, but I believe you can only have 15 synchros or less. Hope that helps. ^-^
According to Hoyle - when you cut, you must take at least 5 cards and at most 47 cards from the top of the deck.
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game- When you have no cards in your deck, you may duel unless you are forced/have to draw. If you must draw, yet have no cards in your deck, you lose.

A deck is a collection of cards, usually somewhere near 40. a duelist uses these cards to reduce the opponents life points to zero by attacking with monsters. a deck is like a duelists bread and butter. It must be balanced with the right amount of monsters, magic cards, and trap cards. you can make a deck yourself, or you can by a premade deck at your local retail store.
The absolute MINIMUM amount of cards you can have in a Deck is 40 cards. Normally, for casual play, there is no "maximum" limit for the amount of cards you can have in your Deck. However, for most official Duels and tournaments, it is restricted to 60 cards MAXIMUM per the newly instituted Master Rules. Also, you can have a MAXIMUM of 15 cards in your Extra Deck. There is no "minimum" requirement of the amount of cards in your Extra Deck. For your Side Deck, you must have 15 cards. You can choose not to have a Side Deck; however, if you do, you can have no more, and no less than 15 cards.

No, there is no rule that says you must have any monsters at all in your deck. You can make it 100% Spell and Trap cards if you wish.
