^^that's the original answer....but don't give it rare candies.rare candies just levels it up. it doesn't make it happier or anything. but the soothe bell, proteins, irons, carbos, etc. will help same as letting it walk with you and talking to it. don't let it feint in battle and heal any status problem as soon as you can.
