There are 3 multiplayer options available on Black Ops without an internet connection.
The first is a Local game. Using this you can do split screen on the same console and rank up just like you would do online (however this is separate to your online account.
You may also use system link or a LAN (Local area network) to play with persons on your network on different TVs however this is required to be set up and a console per person is required.
The second is Co-op in Nazi Zombies. This can be done split screen with a friend on the console or again, via LAN with 4 players
The last is DOA (Dead Ops Arcade) which is a new top-down shooter. This can be done again on the same console or on a LAN.
