Usually, you find the Lost Chaos where you do Mystic Melody or whatever it is (You know, where you play the flute at the 'old ruins' like sonic says). You play the flute and go on the obstacles and you see a chao!!! But if you get the chao, it does NOT go to your Chao Garden.

You get it by raising a full grown hero chao. Just raise a baby with a hero character (Sonic, Tails, you know) and wait for them to blossom a chao head shaped cacoon, it'll play 2 tunes and the cacoon will dissappear. And there you have both a hero chao, and hero chao garden.

First you need mystic melody for sonic and then play mission 3 in metal harbor and go to the spot where the airplanes shoot at you. Go to where there is like 3 blocks with one on top. Bounce to that higher block and jump into it. Play the mystic melody. A platform will appear follow it to the top of the building. Follow the platforms from there to the lost chao.
