You need to make a server, or press ESC, and press open to lan, but this only works if your friend is on the same connection as you.

A friend system is not built into the Minecraft game. Some servers have a friend system, the command is usually /friend add <name>
what I meant to ask was can someone invite me to minecraft realms
You'll need a friend with you in real life, so you can share a screen. Your friend will have to add their controller, and then you can play. As for XBOX Live, split screen isn't needed as your playing on different consoles. Just invite them to an XBOX party and you can invite them to your minecraft game, no split screen needed.
To answer a faction invite just do /f join <faction name>
To invite someone to your faction in Minecraft, do /f invite <player name>. They then need to do /f join <faction name> to accept your invitation.
