If you use the cheat moveobjects on (to bring up the cheat entry box, hit ctrl+shift+c together), it becomes possible to delete, for example, a coffee table with a lamp and a vase on it all at once without having to delete the decorative items individually first and then the table itself.
There are also cheats to delete all awnings/walls/fences. If you type help in the cheat window, those will be among the listed cheats.
